The Hills are Alive with Girls

When: Mothers Day
Who: Alisa [livejournal.com profile] enigmassweet, Gwen Cooper [livejournal.com profile] redtrainers and Liz [livejournal.com profile] lizfirestarter
Where: Beverly Hills

What: It was nice to have a personal car that is from the 1960's the old 64 Impala was perfect for a day like this. The sun was wibbly and Jack was letting people take it easy while The Doctors work out what exactly is wrong here.

It was a chance to simply have fun and Alisa pulls the car up to the very expensive place and she was given, cash. "Okay, we have enough cash to stuff ourselves with frogs legs, snails and crapes..." She mmms at the idea of crapes and she looks at the still skinny blonds for a bit. She's happy with herself as she pulls the door open to her car to let the valet do his job. "And, we've got someone to park the car." She thanks the valet and offers him a pleasant tip.

"It's a wonder we're even staying still right now instead of running amongst the stars."

Gwen smiled as she got out of the car. She had gotten all dressed up and her hair was done too. It was nice to just have a girls day. "Anwen is with Rhys, so that I really can have a day to myself. A day off, in Torchwood? It's practically unheard of." She laughed and looked up at the sky. It was so odd, with the sun wibbly and everything seeming a bit off kilter.

"I don't remember the last time I had french food. Not so sure about the creepies, but I'll have the crapes. Maybe they can make one for me with chocolate?" She grinned and leaned against the car. It was a beauty. She almost wished Rhys had one like this. It was one of those great, old classic cars you didn't see very much anymore.

Liz never expected this to happen when she woke up this morning. Still, she had enough time to find a nice enough dress and do her hair and make up. "We need to enjoy it while it lasts." Liz hasn't told the girls she's ask for less heavy field duty yet. Maybe over lunch.

"Frogs?" Liz shudders, remembering the incident with the frog creatures at Cavendish Hall all those years ago when she was practically a rookie at the BPRD. It seems like a whole other life now. "No frogs, I'll stick with crepes too."

"At least nobody can call us and tell us we have to go to work, right?" Liz says, wondering how to break the news to the girls. She's sure they'll understand, but she doesn't like letting people down anyway.

Gwen followed the other girls into the place that had been picked out. "Okay, I really have no desire to eat a frog, let alone an alien frog." Cringing a little, she did make sure that her mobile phone was on vibrate in her small clutch. She knew that they said no phones, but she just had to keep it on in case of 'Anwen' emergency.

"No. No work. Come on, this is Mother's Day. It's 'our' day. Just us. No men. No children. And no weevils or field assignments." She laughed and gently stomped her leather boot clad foot. "I have spoken."

Noticing the ring, she moved over and eyed it, having no shame in doing so. "Alisa, that is gorgeous! When did you get this?" She was pretty sure she'd never seen this one before. Not having been around long, she knows she's seen the smaller one. "Wow, go Jack. He has taste and can pick out a good diamond. I'm impressed."

"Not alien," Liz shakes her head. "Just an old mission phobia. Don't worry about it." Liz waves off the comment but she's never liked frogs after that. Nearly getting eaten by them kind of puts you off to them. Same with calamari thanks to that giant squid mess back when she first met everyone at Torchwood.

She snorts at Gwen's proclamation. "When did you get that much influence around here?" Liz is teasing of course, she knows Jack trusts Gwen more than most and it's part of the reason Liz finally had the guts to step back and let the rest of the team worry about the field. "I gotta talk to you two about something, after we find a table."

Alisa's planet of a diamond it hard to miss, but the talk Jack and Liz had before is still ringing in her ears. She's not surprised her boss bought his wife something like that, just because he could. "I wonder if he had help finding that thing." Liz teases as she looks the ring over. She's thankful now all she got was a blinged out spider pendant, which is fully visible along with the earrings from her birthday that match the stone that is the spiders abdomen perfectly. She's thankful someone's got a bigger sparkley than she does. "It's like a weapon. You could kill somebody with that thing if you had to, Alisa."

"Well, if you insist, then I'll try to eat a frog. Just... Maybe I can add a little sauce to it or something? So it doesn't look like a frog?" Gwen smiled between the two of them as they were led to their table. Sitting down, she made herself comfortable at the table.

"The phones. Right..." Gwen inwardly cursed herself. She kept forgetting the thing didn't work. Still, she took it with her everywhere like it did. Shaking her head, she knew she would have to do better if she was going to be trusting herself. Listening to Alisa, her cheeks reddened and she nodded her head in agreement. "Yes, well, Jack wasn't there and someone had to step up." The compliments, though gratefully appreciated, still made her blush.

"That's a beautiful ring. And that's Jack for you," she teased. "Bling, and with a second purpose always. It's like giving you a gun for Valentine's Day."

"Everything tastes like chicken, but that doesn't mean it is chicken." Liz will not be eating frogs. "Little ones are fine, they're cute even but these were...big and then didn't want to sing. Ask Red about it sometime."

Liz's phone is knocking around the bottom of her purse. She's holding out hope something will happen and it will magically start ringing again but she knows better. It's never that easy.

"You did all that?" Liz has heard about the time Jack was away, of course but knowing Gwen now and knowing what she did then make Liz smiles. "Good. It makes me feel better you're even more capable that I thought, Gwen, because...I'm going off the field." She decides jumping into the thing she needs to say is probably best. "Unless you guys need a walking napalm strike, I'm gonna let the non pregnant people handle the big stuff." Liz looks at the sky, frowning. "Not sure how well it will work with all this shit, but I'm gonna try."

"I would rather have a gun than an engagement ring, any day. A lot more useful but," Liz shrugs and diverts her attention to the menu before her. "I'm not exactly a normal kinda girl." She mutters as she looks over the non frog based options.

Gwen looked back and forth between the girls. "What is normal anyway? Look at the lives we lead. I think for what we do, we're pretty stable. Barbie sure couldn't handle this life," she teased.

Reaching out, she gently patted Liz's hand with her own. "You're capable too, but I understand. I had planned to take time off too when I became pregnant. Then, well... You saw the Cardiff crater." She sighed and gently pulled her hand back. "Trust me, we'll find things for you to do. Owen and Jack will pass their paperwork off to you in an instant if you let them."

Gwen goes with the water too. If the girls can't drink, she won't. "Really? I didn't know that. I don't know much about juju." Gwen looked down at her menu, tempted to try the things she said she wouldn't. "Is that like karma?"

"Snails?" Liz turned up her nose again at the idea of escargot. Nothing slimy, crawly or jumpy shall pass her lips today, or any day if she can help it. She's had enough slime in her mouth due to missions in her life.

Liz flashes Gwen a sympathetic look. "I'm glad we found you, brought you back where you belong." She turns her hand over to squeeze Gwen's hand in appreciation of the confidence she has in Liz. "Have you seen Owen's desk?" Liz snickers at the idea of helping him with paperwork. "I don't want to get near that thing. Scared something he left there that shouldn't be there will eat me."

Liz gets a white soda with a million bright red cherries floating in it. She's still on that same sugar kick from before. "It's like tempting fate." Liz nods to Alisa, then to Gwen. "Like with me getting pregnant. I bet you anything it's because I got so excited I wasn't when I had that scare, but..." She smiles, leaning back in her chair thoughtfully. "I think it was supposed to happen. It was just a matter of time." Liz drops her voice, blushing a bit. "We both need this, Owen and I. To learn to be grown ups or something like that."
