Who: Gwen and Jack
redtrainers and
nonmoritur
When: Today. Now. Current!
What: Gwen finally has the baby.
Cameo by
undecimus to play babysitter to Anwen.
Still in California because she was pregnant.
Gwen Cooper: Gwen smiled. After everything that had happened, she would be happy for just a bit of peace. She smiled as she looked up at Jack, Anwen happily napping in the other room. "Jack?" She called out, raising an eyebrow as she spoke.
Jack Harkness: : He looked over at her from the other room. "Yeah?" he asked and rubbed his hands on his jeans. "What's wrong?" he leaned against the doorframe. He was happy for the peace as well.
Gwen Cooper: "My water just broke." She looked down at her feet, shaking her head. Her timing always sucked. That was something that would never change.
Jack Harkness: : And he blinked at that. "Oh God, okay you think someone can come sit with Anwen or should we take her with us?"
Gwen Cooper: Gwen groaned, doubling over at the pain she was feeling from her contractions. "Call Owen. Call Jack. I don't care. Oh god..."
Jack Harkness: : "Calm down," he remarked and moved to the phone to call the Doctor instead.
Gwen Cooper: She nodded her head. "Sorry..." Slowly, she moved over to the sofa and sat down.
Jack Harkness: : "You don't have to apologize," he commented and raised a brow at her before moving over toward her. "He's here already, come on."
Gwen Cooper: "Anwen..." She stood up and wrapped an arm around him, holding him close. "Even if you've done this before, it still hurts."
Jack Harkness: : "The Doctor is here already," he motioned upstairs. "You didn't hear the TARDIS?"
Gwen Cooper: She shook her head. "No, I didn't." She forced a smile and let him lead her.
Jack Harkness: : And he gently led her out to the car, helping her into the passenger seat before getting into the driver’s seat to drive to the hospital.
Gwen Cooper: "The contractions are about ten minutes apart. We have some time," She smiled and relaxed in her seat as Jack drove. "Thank you."
Jack Harkness: : "Oh that's good at least, hopefully we don't hit traffic." He smiled a little bit and took her hand.
Gwen Cooper: Gwen smiled as she let Jack lead her to the car. Once inside, she leaned back and started to breathe. There was a bag that was packed and ready to go in the boot of the car, just in case. She sighed. She didn't know what she'd do without him.
Jack Harkness: : And he turned his hazards on and made his way to the hospital. He let her hold on to his hand as he drove. He was calm, calmer than he had thought he would be in this moment.
Gwen Cooper: Gwen was calm too. She chalked it up to this being her second child. The pain wasn't as bad as it was the first time. Mostly because she knew what was coming this time. "At least the weather's nice? No rain?" She chuckled and gave his hand a squeeze.
Jack Harkness: : "Don’t' jinx it," he commented and smiled a little as he continued to drive, pulling into the parking lot, finding a decent parking spot and moving around to help her out of the car.
Gwen Cooper: "Now now, no jinxing. Got it, Captain." She smiled and held onto his arm as he escorted her into the hospital. For a pregnant couple, they were very calm. No screaming for a wheelchair. "See, we made it." The hospital staff smiled and brought out a wheelchair for Gwen. "Sir, you'll have to fill out this paperwork while we get your wife settled."
Jack Harkness: : He raised a brow at that and tilted his head some. "Okay, busy work then," he winked at Gwen.
Gwen Cooper: While he was doing that, they took Gwen off to her own private room. She smiled as she was made comfortable, getting her nightgown on and prepping her. Finally, they told Jack he could come back and join her.
Jack Harkness: : He wasn't sure when the new age hospitals got so old fashioned in that way -- but he went along with it anyway. He walked back and smiled at her, sitting down next to her.
Gwen Cooper: Mostly, she had insisted. Jack was going to be with her or else she would lose it. "Hey honey," she murmured, reaching for his hand. "The contractions are coming closer now."
Jack Harkness: : "Already?" he asked, reaching out and taking her hand, smiling a little and squeezed her hand.
Gwen Cooper: "Ready as I'll ever be." She smiled and leaned in for a kiss. "So, what are we naming the child," she teased.
Jack Harkness: : "Actually, we had already decided that." He snickered.
Gwen Cooper: "We had a few ideas." She smiled and squeezed his hand. "I like Jackson. Jackson Blake Harkness." She smiled and kissed his cheek.
Jack Harkness: : He smiled a little and winked at her. "So it’s done. Let's see how long it takes Jackson to actually arrive."
Gwen Cooper: Gwen groaned as the contractions started to come much faster now. The nurses came in and smiled at Jack. "It's time to move her. You'll have to go and get scrubbed and robed if you're going to be her coach."
Jack Harkness: : He raised a brow. "You people have gone backwards," he remarked. "Never had to do this before," he muttered and moved to do as he was told.
Gwen Cooper: The nurse shook her head. "I'm sorry, sir, but this is a hospital. And everyone has to be sterile and sanitized. Everyone going in there does more than just the gowns. Sorry."
Jack Harkness: : "So are you doing a C-section then?" he asked the woman and put the gown on.
Gwen Cooper: "We shouldn't have to, no. Your wife is healthy with no complications." She smiled warmly at Jack. "Just in there. We'll meet you in there with Gwen." She left and went to escort Mrs. Harkness into the delivery room.
Jack Harkness: : And he made a sound as he followed behind. Putting a hospital gown on wasn’t rocket science. He walked in and smiled at Gwen, standing at her side and offering her his hand.
Gwen Cooper: Gwen tried to smile at Jack. The contractions were much closer now. She squeezed his hand harder this time, panting slightly. "Jack..."
Jack Harkness: : "I'm right here, Gwen," he said and gave her hand a gentle squeeze as he watched nurses and doctors get into position.
Gwen Cooper: Gwen's legs were propped up and they positioned her, draping a paper cloth over her knees. Gwen looked over at Jack, trying to remember the classes they took. "He's coming, ma'am. I'll need you both to breathe now."
Jack Harkness: : "I'm fine," jack said and smiled a little bit, still holding her hand as he assured her that he was there
Gwen Cooper: And then, the contractions started to come much closer. As time passed by, Gwen started her breathing and tried to remain calm. She was so glad Jack was here with her. Otherwise, she didn't know what might have happened.
Jack Harkness: : He gave her hand another squeeze and listened as the doctors were telling her what to do -- to remember to breathe and when to push.
Gwen Cooper: Her eyes widened and she started to follow the doctor's orders. Her head tilted towards him and she gripped his hand tight. As Jack sat there, Gwen went through the motions of pushing and breathing, trying not to crush his hand in the process. She was grateful to have him there. "C'mon Gwen, just a little more." She shared a look with Jack as she pushed. It really wasn't as bad as Anwen, so she thanked God for small favours. She waited as the Doctor told her to lie back, feeling him help the baby out slowly. "Gwen, push again," she heard. Sitting up, she pushed, breathing just like she was told to in the classes. Looking over at Jack, she smiled as she stared into his eyes. "I love you," she said as she gave one last push. As she heard the baby cry, she slumped back against the bed, trying to catch her breath. "Jack, Gwen, meet your son."
Jack Harkness: : And that was the best part of it. He smiled a little and looked over at the baby. "Mm, hello young man, welcome to the world," Jack said and leaned over to kiss her forehead. "You did good, love."
Gwen Cooper: "You too." She smiled and took the baby, holding him for a moment, staring into his eyes. "He looks just like you." Gently, she lifted Jackson up to his father.
Jack Harkness: : "Nah," he said and smiled a little bit. "But he is quite handsome."
Gwen Cooper: "Like you." She yawned, leaning back against the bed. "I am so tired..." She motioned for Jack to take the baby from her. She didn't want to drop him.
Jack Harkness: : And he reached for the baby who fussed a bit. "Shh, little man, it's okay, mum's tired now."
Gwen Cooper: Gwen reached up, gently petting the baby while Jack held him. "I can't wait to go home," she murmured. She inched closer to Jack, favouring the side of the bed closest to him.
