Jed had just about had it with being the Master's guinea pig. That had been true even before they'd got down to the business of the Master using him as a guinea pig, but now he was really ready to be done. It was less a matter of feelings, though, than opportunity.
Today was, after all, the day when he'd finally finished filing through one of the bars of the birdcage. The Master had seemed sort of preoccupied a lot of the time, and Jed just hoped he wasn't going to come check up on him or want to do another experiment too soon.
With the bar disconnected, it didn't take him too long to bend it inward far enough that he could squeeze out of the cage. Before running away, he conscientiously bent it back to its original position - if he got caught and put back inside, he didn't want the Master knowing how he'd got out. That done, he slipped away and began his quest to reach the outside, leaving the empty cage behind.

"This is a brave attempt, Jed, but pointless. I won't open the TARDIS doors, until I find you. I can make sure the TARDIS denies you access to food and water, as well. Do you know what isomorphic control means? It means I can make sure that only I can touch and use the water taps!"

Still, he doubted that what the Master was saying was true, so he stayed put right where he was. He'd get out, one way or another.
Be better to find somewhere more hidden, though - he began to creep along behind the toolbox.

"You're being very unreasonable, Jed, and I don't appreciate this waste of my time," the Master warned. "It is not in your best interests to draw things out until I lose my temper."
