What: Patrick is redesigning the mansion...on paper

Patrick had never been an artist at heart at least not in the drawing for the sake of drawing sense. But his father had drilled into him over and over again the importance of putting his thoughts down on paper when starting a new project. So here he was under a tree drawing a new grand staircase of the mansion. He had no real plans to actually fix the stairs but it was helping him think things through as he worked.

The cry of an animal, made Patrick look up from his work a moment and he sighed. It seemed like the sun that was keeping the Earth alive was now burning hotter and brighter than before. "Sometimes I wonder if we shouldn't let the earth die and be done with it," he muttered than shook his head firmly. It was not the time to fall apart, now was the time to work and putting pencil back to paper Patrick did just that.

There's one of the Doctors and he comes running up towards Patrick. He doesn't mistake Patrick for Jack due to the lack of wrongness but he runs up towards him and he comes to a stop. "You don't happen to know if the other Captain Jack's TARDIs is still working or not?"

There's a squint that maybe this is that Jack without the wrongness who came across a TARDIS somehow. "Okay, unless you are him, but I doubt it."

Used to the Doctor's random behavior, Patrick looks up from his work and smiles.

"I don't know if it's working yet, but the answer would be no," he says, "He'd be working on these cracks if the tech was working again. And so would I."

Setting the pad of paper aside, Patrick stands. "And no I'm not Jack I'm Patrick Logan I just look like Jack."

The Doctor finally gets a moment to stop, he was running in the desert to try to find someone who can help him. "That's not a good answer now is it?" He stops to let his hearts catch up to him and he leans back against the tree. He was running with Master and he looks down at the picture of the stairs.

"I know summer is coming and that this is Southern California, but blimey it's a bit warm outside." The Doctor takes a look at the hot sun above them with a concerned look. "That's the thing. You lot rely alot on your technology to solve a problem." The Doctor's kneels down to get a better look at the drawing of those stares and he places his hands on his knees.

He squints at the picture for a moment. "Nice set of plans for a set of stairs."

'Doctor are you alright," Patrick asks never having seen the Time Lord out of breath before. "It is warmer than normal thanks to whatever that is." He points at the sun thing a worried frown on his face.

For a moment the complement makes him smile. "Thanks, the stairs in the house are rubbish as you would say. If I had enough time and money I'd fix them."

"I'm fine. Really, I'm fine." The Doctor was wandering all over the place looking to see if he could find another functioning TARDIS. "I think it's all in our heads Patrick. It's summer of course so it could just be global warming."

The Doctor's quick to snatch the drawing from Patrick's hands. "I think we've got bigger things to worry about than dodgy stairs. Why don't you come with me to my TARDIS yeah?" He holds onto the drawing and he rubs the back of his head.

Patrick was about to complain about the Doctor grabbing his drawing, but he kept his mouth shut and just nodded. "Okay Doctor," he finally says, "any destination in mind or is this just a pleasure trip?"

Glancing up at the "sun" again, Patrick couldn't help thinking that something more dangerous was going on.

"No, we're going back to my TARDIS." The Doctor may of meant the only working TARDIS but it doesn't matter. It's the one that is working so he might be able to do some good poking. "We're not going anywhere at least not right now, Patrick."

He moves along through the desert to the new looking TARDIS and he pulls Patrick through the doors. "Sorry, I've got a habit of kidnapping people or dragging them along without asking."

Now Patrick was really starting to worry. The Doctor wanted him in the TARDIS, but it most likely wasn't working like the others, so they weren't going anywhere as of yet.

"Okay normally I can follow your logic pretty well, but this time you really have me confused Doctor." Fixing the Doctor with his best Jack like glare he asked.

"What the hell is going on?"

We could. Of course we could, but then who would we fight to save day after day. It would be quite boring after awhile.

Patrick looked up startled at the frankness of the speaker. "That's true too," he told her with a smile, "saving the world from aliens has been a lot more interesting than trying to be a tree hugger."

"Well it seems pretty silly to be a 'tree-hugger' on Earth. Now on the Forest of Cheem - they Trees can hug you back."

She smiled and took a seat near him.

Patrick laughed. "It is kind of silly now that I think about it. Trees can regrow if we take the time to plant them."

He has never heard of the Forest of Cheem and can't help asking more questions. The Doctor has been a bad infuelence on him.

"Really, are they like people there, just made of wood."

[She thinks about that for a moment.]

No. More liked Woods that are made of people.

[Which is not right either, though from the TARDIS perspective, may as well be.]

Patrick tries to picture that in his mind and his drawing changes to reflect that. "I'll have to ask the Doctor to take me there...it sounds like it would be my kind of place."

[Color Cridhe jealous.]

You do realize that it is not the Doctor who takes you places, correct? It is m- the TARDIS.

Patrick smiles. "I wondered about that," he muses, "we never seem to end up where we are supposed to go."

To the contrary. The Doctor always ends up precisely where he is needed. Who better to know that than... the TARDIS?

[It is strange to refer to herself in the third person. But, what's a girl to do?]

"You seem to know alot about her," Patrick remarks, "do you mind if I pick your brain? I've been curious about what makes the ship tick."

She is not just a ship... but proceed.

"How was she made? She seems so natural."

[She's amused.]

The Doctor never told you? A TARDIS is grown, not built.... well, the mechanics are built, obviously. But the Heart of the TARDIS? Is a sentient being.

"He mentioned the whole gets inside your head thing, but I didn't realize it was actually alive. So that coral is real?"

[She is quiet as she thinks about how to explain it.]

Not exactly. The physical image of what you see is more like a desk-top theme on your computer screen. Only, you can physically interface with it. Within the Central Column is where I- erm the sentient creature resides, thus bringing all the mechanics of the ship to life.

That would mean each piece of tech the Doctor put in the TARDIS would then have to interface with to make it all work together.

Am I right?

Interface with the sentience? Yes. If it did not the whole thing would cease to function.
