Ghosts.
Rose and Alex finally awoke from there deep sleep rather suddenly, she noticed that her meta-nine had been a bit hyper that morning and decided to take a walk with him only to discover that there's strange ghost-like people walking around.
Both her and Alex tried to touch them, and communicate with them, but they didn't respond it seemed as though they didn't even no they were there.
