When in Rome...
When: After Jack takes the woman to the Vatican
Who:
lizfirestarter
wanker4life
Where: Rome
What:
Liz couldn't cook in a real kitchen, let alone one on a plane. Her luck something would start on fire, and not just from a stove. She took Alisa's suggestion to go fine Owen and explore. She was still a little pissed at him for leaving after she fell asleep but it wasn't surprising, really. Owen was stubborn, that's just who he was. Hopefully not so stubborn that he already ate, though.

He's had a bit of a day when it came to meeting yet another Ianto and one tough grandma. Owen's tired and he waves over to Liz to join him. "There you are! Sorry, that I wandered off. I was getting a little fidgety and we can't let Jack have all the fun pissing off Satan now can we? Well maybe he pissed God off too."

She grabs a beer and takes a drink before turning more serious. "You are OK, right? Not just trying to be a big tough guy to impress me?" She quirks a brow at the comment about pissing Satan and God off. "Did you go to the Vatican with Jack?" Suddenly Liz has visions of those elite class of nuns that live there being traumatized by something Owen did.

He ums and he looks at the bag. "I got you a jacket too." Owen couldn't just buy for himself. "No I didn't. I'd end up dead if I walked through those big pearly gates."

She beams a little. Liz is getting used to Owen getting her things, and she's getting better at taking a gift with grace and even at buying them for other people. "Yeah? I got lunch then." She insists. "Lemme see, please?" She wants to keep him in a good mood because there's the little matter of what Jack told her before on the plane. She can't ignore the whole 'In a cage with a weevil thing' she just can't. "That's not funny, Owen. You are forbidden to die, got me?"

He picked up a nice leather (http://www.polyvore.com/joseph_tokyo_black_leather_jacket/thing?id=41868680) coat from one of the shops for Liz. He goes to take it out of the bag and he offers her a smile. "Well we never know when we'll end up somewhere cold." He stands up slowly and he offers to help Liz into the coat. "Yes, I'm not going to die. I got a job of freaking out Iantos."

She figures just like most things the Doctor planned this one was put on hold. Besides, there were biblical monsters to take care of.
She grabs for the jacket, quickly pulls off the one she had on before and pulls the new one on. "How'd you get so good at this?" Liz asks before she kissed him thank you and snuggles the coat a bit. She can't snuggle him on account of broken ribs, damn it. "I love it. I did not pack for this weather."
The comment about not dying brings her thoughts back to the question Jack raised in her mind. "Yeah...about that." She's never been good at more difficult conversations. "Jack mentioned something when you were out on the plane ride over here." Liz tries to sound casual. "About a weevil and a cage and you going in there on purpose." She chuckles nervously. "He's...that's just one of those fucked up stories he tells, right?"
no subject
He leans over to give Liz a kiss and he knew she'd like it. He wasn't ready for the cold either. "I thought you would. I didn't either and my coat was filthy from rolling around in the mud."
He goes to slowly sit himself back down and he hears what Jack told Liz. "Oh, yeah. I don't throw myself into Weevil cages anymore. And, it wasn't a fucked up story of his."

"I think we should submit the receipts to Jack." Liz says with a grin. "Or the Vatican. This is a legit work expense." Nothing would make her happier than making them pay for the pain in the ass that mission was. She's all for helping people that need it but that was crazy.
"Oh." Liz glances down at the table. She's not sure what to say to that. So many question that can't possibly have answers she's going to want to hear. "Well good that you...don't do that anymore."
The waiter comes and looks at Liz expectantly. "I...um..." she looks back at Owen and frowns. This was supposed to be a nice normal date thing and she might have screwed it up with her stupid questions. "Non affamato." She tells the waiter she's not hungry then sighs. "Sorry." That apology was meant for Owen.

He laughs about the idea of the Pope getting the receipts. "The Pope will just say holy shit! Those guys ate up everything in Rome!" He's in a good mood and the fact this is just normal old Rome makes it better. "I like normal trips like this. Its Rome. Its not Ancient and it doesn't smell like someone shit in the river. Okay, Ancient Rome would be kinda cool but its modern. There's cars, scooters and all sorts of normal things and we're not gonna get killed by Cesar."
'Note to self. Try to visit Ancient Rome...
"No, I've got no reason to do that kinda thing anymore. I was a sad kid then." Owen looks at her and then the waiter. "We'll still do lunch. Please, don't let this get you down Liz. We'll still do lunch here. We'll enjoy the day and do more shopping for boots. And, maybe we can get Robbie something nice."

She nods, the idea of what could make Owen want to do something like that breaking her heart. Liz looks up at the waiter apologetically. Cinque minuti, per favore?" She can't think about food until she gets this clear in her head. "Five minutes, then I'll order and we can just...go about our day, I promise." She tells Owen as she scoots her chair even closer when the waiter leaves.
"Why?" She asks worriedly. "I mean...you can tell me...nothing, if you want but I just..." Liz sighs and takes his hand in hers. "I want to understand who you are and who you were, and I don't right now and I don't like it at all."

He stops and he listens to her talk Italian without the aide of the translator in his mobile. He places the phone back into his coat pocket. "Cause my heart was broken. Someone I fell in love for left me. Diane Holmes was her name, we started out as fuck buddies but it became something a lot more. I fell in love with her and she just decided one day to leave me. She was a pilot who fell through time, I was having an affair with Gwen and pretty much I just felt like shit at the end. I wanted to end it all but Jack came blundering in to save my ass."
There's no scars to show anymore thanks to some Torchwood toy that was in the HUB one day. "Then there was Katie before I joined Torchwood. Suzie. Blimey my luck with anyone sucked then."
no subject
Liz sighs. She was afraid it was something like that. Not that complex but she knew before they even got together that Owen had a more affectionate side he tried to hide adn that he had to have a good reason to be afraid of it.
"That sucks." There's not much more she can say, so she wraps her arms around his neck, hating that she can't hug him properly after all that. "I'm sorry. Anyone going though all that would have gotten self destructive." She kisses his cheek and rests her head on his shoulder. "I'm glad you...didn't die. Jack said you were tougher than people give you credit for, and he's right."
"Hey." Now she's worried she's gone and made him dwell on the past. Nothing like stoking his ego to make that go away, she hopes. "Maybe...you can think of all the mistakes you made as lessons that made you as perfect as you are now." Liz know's Owen far from perfect, but he's perfect for her and that's all that counts.

He lifts an arm up and there's an unhappy look on his face when he goes to give her a kiss on the cheek. "You didn't know and maybe I should of told you. But you know I'm shit when it comes to talking about that stuff. I'm glad I didn't die either. I shouldn't be here but here I am making a lot of the most of it."
Owen listens and pulls her in close despite how much pain it may cause him. "I'm the most perfect guy out here right now. I'm better with our kids than Jack and Ianto are so that's a plus."
