And I missed the fun

When: Events take place after dealing with rift activity.
Where: The New York Hub : Owen's Medical Suite
Who: Owen Harper [livejournal.com profile] wanker4life , Liz Sherman [livejournal.com profile] lizfirestarter and Gwen Cooper [livejournal.com profile] redtrainers. OTA

What:

Owen was going through reports from the attacks that lead up to Jack taking the girls out to go hunting. He's sulking and in a pretty shitty mood that he was left behind. "Bloody, old Harkness just leaving me here to shift through paperwork."

He looks to his left and he looks to his right. "Ianto?!" Owen cries out but he's going to be met with someone worse than Ianto who's going to tell Owen to tell him to file his own paperwork for once. "Liz?! The fuck?" He really wonders if he should tell Jack about this and the doctor goes faint. He doesn't faint this time but he's scared something happened to her. "Something tried to eat you and our 'son'."

"Calm down, I'm fine." Quite the contrary, Liz is not fine. She's lost enough blood and is in enough pain that she feels faint herself. She resigns herself to the inevitable Dr. Owen Harper Brand Freak Out as she sits in a chair in the medical suite. This time however, the freak out if perfectly warranted.

" No..." Liz shrugs off what's left of the leather jacket she's wearing and holds out her arm for Owen to look at. "It was trying to eat Jack and we saved him and killed it, thank you very much." She rolls her eyes and mutter. "Yay, girl power." about as enthusiastically as someone would say 'yay, taxes.'

[identity profile] open-flame.livejournal.com 2011-04-07 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't like the sun," Liz tries to wave her hand dismissively but ends up getting dizzy, so she reaches for Owen with her good arm. "I'm always this pale"

She sighs and doesn't protest at all when Owen starts working on her arm. "I just..." Liz looks away from Owen, ashamed to admit she just wanted to feel like herself again. A mission and doing her job and just being her was what she thought would help. Clearly, she was wrong. "I got sloppy, I'm sorry. Won't happen again."

Liz knows it's not going to happen again for sure now. "I told him, actually. He knew about the baby before we went out after that thing," Liz still refused to look her boyfriend in the face. She does not want to know how Owen's going to react to this. "He said...it was up to you if I got to stay in the field or not." Liz winces at her arm that's not all the way numb yet. "Guess I already know the answer to that question, don't I?" She mutters dryly.

[identity profile] open-flame.livejournal.com 2011-04-07 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
"I like snow..." Liz chews her lip regretfully, letting Owen go on and be pissed at Jack. She should have told Owen sooner, but she was afraid of this exact reaction from him: over protective, over worried and treating her like she's made of glass.

"Yeah well, last time I checked, I'm not your wife, I'm the girl you knocked up in the fucking TARDIS so you don't get a say in what I can or can't the way Jack does with Alisa." Liz shakes her head, hating her self for snapping like that. It's not Owen's fault, anymore than it is hers for getting bit up trying to do her job.

"This is exactly WHY I didn't want to ask you, OK? I knew you were gonna freak out and tell me I had to change everything again..." She coughs finally looks at Owen, her tone softening. "What the hell am I supposed to do now? I fight monsters. It's what I do."

The sadness and fear in her voice is more than evident. "I have tried so many times to do other shit but I always came back to fighting this bump in the night weird crap because it's the only thing I'm any good at." She's going to blame that quiver in her voice that means she's near tears on her hormones. "I pretty much forced Jack to take me out anyway. It was just supposed to be target practice but I...screwed up."

"I know, I just meant...later." Liz says softly, trying to keep from getting more pissed herself. "There's snow in parts of Russia all year. I lived there for a while."

She exhales sharply, again listening to Owen go on for a bit before responding. This is progress. Ordinarily, she'd want to jump down someones throat for trying to exact any authority over her. It's not that Owen was trying to do that, though; this wasn't Manning telling her she was grounded or reprimanding her for the Pittsburgh mess. This is someone who cares about her, loves her even just...doing that. Caring, loving and looking out for her.

"You're a doctor. You have to be here to stitch up girls who get bit to hell by goo monsters." Liz counters Owen's comment about not going out every day. "I'm...not. I don't even know what I'm going to do around here if I'm stuck. I have no skills that don't involve shooting things or being an unreasonable bitch." She shakes her head and frowns. "I would make a terrible secretary."

She leans into the hug and sighs, part relieved part worried. "I'm not mad at you either, I'm just," Liz huffs and does that snuggling thing against Owen's chest that she'll never ever admit she does. "I was scared of losing myself, but once I was out there with that thing taking a chunk out of me so my fire...freaked out and Jack having to be like bait," she picks her head up and smiles slightly. "It kinda hit me how real this all is."

Liz sighs and pulls back, smiling slightly. How the hell Owen managed to defuse her anger that quickly is a bit of a miracle. He's special, that's for damn sure. "I know this is the most important thing I have ever done in my life," she leans up and places a very quick kiss on Owen's cheek. "Big responsibility means no big chances because someone needs me and I need...someone."

"I'm not doing this by myself so...don't even think about..." Liz knows telling Owen not to bail on her would be a very sore subject, so she drops it, even though it's a real fear she has. "Don't let me do stupid shit that makes me get mad at you for not really being mad at me, OK?" She laughs a bit and wraps her arms around Owen again. "This would be one of those text book perfect times to say I'm sorry and I love you, wouldn't it?"

Gwen really didn't know this Owen. She hadn't spoken to him at the party and hadn't had a chance to work with him since she'd come here. A part of her was still scared to. All she wanted to do was go up to Owen and hug him to bits. He, being Owen, would hate that and make some snarky comment. And she might cry. It was for that reason that she had avoided him.

Now, she had no choice. She wanted to check on Liz. She liked the girl, having grown close to her since being in the TARDIS with her. It helped to have another female friend around here. Someone to talk to other than Rhys or Jack. And so she was really worried about what had happened to Liz's arm.

Standing at the railing, she stared down at them, not wanting to intrude. She could see the care and love flowing between them and she didn't want to interrupt their quiet moment. Still, she does.

"I can vouch for that," she said softly. "I got to see him shoot a cyberwoman. He's a crack shot when he wants to be." She smiled and looked back and forth between them. "I am sorry to interrupt. How's the arm, Liz?" Gwen's trying hard not to choke up. It's just so good to see Owen alive and in front of her once more. She missed him. He was better alive then dead.

See, this is why Liz doesn't like do the mushy stuff at work. That incident with the cupods and when they found out Liz was pregnant notwithstanding, of course. You always get caught acting like you're not the badass you want everyone to think you are.

Liz would tease the hell out of Owen if Gwen wasn't standing right there. She'd also be tackle kissing him in thanks for letting her work, letting her be her even though it's a risk. Instead, she pulled back, looking into Owen's eyes a moment to let him know how grateful she is for him letting her do this.

"Arm's fine," Liz hops off the exam table and looks up at Gwen. "I have the best doctor ever." She glances back at Owen and smiles in thanks for the patch job, and everything else. "Owen's patched me up more times than I can remember. I have...a bad habit of pretending I'm monster chow." Liz glances back at Owen again and chuckles. "Surprised he hasn't accused me of doing it on purpose just so I get to see him more."

Liz tilts her head and looks Gwen over. She wasn't expecting Gwen to look so, well, emotional. "Are you OK?" Liz asks Gwen, a bit embarrassed herself. This is why she doesn't do at work PDA, it makes people uncomfortable.

[identity profile] redtrainers.livejournal.com 2011-04-08 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Gwen smiled, nodding her head and she's glad she's not tearing up at least. "Owen's the best Doctor I've ever met. He saved my life too, once. I was shot with a shotgun. I shouldn't have made it, but I did. Because of Owen. Can I say, I'm never going into the country again." She smiled at Liz, giving her a wink. Owen is a good guy and she's glad he's found a good woman like Liz. "Don't be monster chow? I need another smart female around here. Even up the ratio."

Her eyes move over to Owen. "I don't know why he didn't invite you, Owen. I kind of wish he had." And she meant it. "You're more than just a doctor. You're a field agent. You're a brilliant man." And a good kisser, but she'd never admit it. "What do I think you were doing, Owen?" She smirked at him, not saying a word about their private moment. It looked like they both needed it.

Gwen was about to answer Liz when Owen spoke up. "I'm not hormonal," she spat out, sticking her tongue playfully out at him. "No, I'm okay Liz. I'm sorry for intruding. I just wanted to make sure you were okay." She blushed a little and leaned against the metal railing. "In my universe, we... We lost Owen. It's just very nice to see him again. You don't realize what you have in your life till it's not there anymore."

[identity profile] open-flame.livejournal.com 2011-04-08 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Liz has no idea why Owen would give a shit that it was Gwen that caught her and Owen in a semi-private moment. Liz is more concerned that ANYONE caught them. She's not the kind of girl who pokes and pries much with Owen. Getting him to let down the walls, and allowing herself to let her own walls down was hard enough.

"I told you, it was supposed to be target practice." Liz sounds exasperated as she shoots Owen a gentle glare, then looks to Gwen with a pleading 'Back me up in this if he won't drop it, please!' sort of look.

She listens to the two of them go on and on about Owen's skills. "Yeah, yeah, and you should see him train a bulldog." Liz knows that Owen's gonna shoot her a look for that one, but she's really trying to make him smile.

Liz looks up at Gwen again. "You're not intruding, why would you think you were intruding? You're not. We weren't doing anything... Owen was just fixing my arm." Once day, years in the future and by some kind of miracle, Liz will learn the defensive act is pointless.

"You...did." Liz can't not look back at Owen again when Gwen mentioned he was lost in Gwen's world. "That's awful." Now Liz is going to prove to Owen that he's in a building with at least one hormonal woman. That look on her face, at the thought of Owen not being around is nothing shot of crushed. When Liz realizes she has that look to her, she suddenly finds the floor very interesting.

[identity profile] redtrainers.livejournal.com 2011-04-08 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"It was just target practice to us. Jack didn't tell us about the monster until after we got out there, otherwise I would have saved you some. Owen, I promise, next time we'll bring you a big hunk of alien for you to cut up." She chuckled and came down the steps so that she could be closer to Owen and Liz. "I would be afraid to see him tarin a bulldog."

"He did try to off himself. He tried to drown himself. Didn't work either." Her head tilted to the side and she looked back and forth between them. "And it was very sad, because I thought of all the team members as family. Even doctors who can be a real prick sometimes." Stepping forward, she gave him a hug before he could stop her. "It's good to see you again, Owen." She hugged him just for a moment before turning back to Liz. She really thought the two of them were cute together.

"It was very awful, Liz. So whatever you're not doing. Just enjoy not doing it. Embrace it while you have it and enjoy every moment you have with the other person." That was why she felt she was intruding. They all knew it was more than Owen fixing her arm, even if nobody wanted to admit that's what it was.

[identity profile] open-flame.livejournal.com 2011-04-09 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Liz needs to pay better attention to Owen. He is the Master of the artful subject dodge. She nearly smacks his hand when he pulls the goo from her hair. "So I didn't get to shower first. Sue me." Liz runs her hand though her hair and, surprise, it gets stuck in a tangle of gooey mess. "Forgive us for being more concerned about not getting eaten then bringing you home something to lose your watch in, Owen."

All this isn't exactly news to Liz about Zombie!Owen or whatever the hell the guy was. Undead? Revived? Possessed? Whatever. She hates the idea through and through and has convinced herself it never happened in any universe and it never will happen in this universe if she's got anything to say about it. Seems that overprotective thing goes both ways...

Liz snorts as he jaw drops in shock, then in laughter when Gwen hugs Owen. Liz wishes she had her camera because that's got to be one of those 'pictures or it didn't happen' moments. "Oh, he is gonna kill you..." she mutters under her breath as she watches Gwen hug Owen. Liz figures it'll take Owen 5 seconds before he starts wiggling like a little kid.

She's able to stop snickering before Gwen addresses her again. "We...will." Liz's eyes dart from Owen to Gwen and back again before she actually starts to blush. "We enjoy each other just fine...thank you. Plan to for...a while. Long while." and once again, that floor is the most interesting place in the whole damn hub.

[identity profile] redtrainers.livejournal.com 2011-04-09 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
She shook her head, smiling and pulling back to look at Owen. "He didn't try a lorry. Though Rhys probably wanted to hit him." Reaching up, she gently patted his cheek with her palm. "It's good to see you too, Owen. Real good." She was proud of the fact that she wasn't crying, even if it was clear in her eyes she was touched to have him back.

Gwen giggled. "There will be other creatures. You know this, Owen. Some things are always constant. One is that aliens will always bother us." She sighs, rolling her eyes as if to say be real, silly doctor. You'll get your autopsy. She smiles up at Liz at he snort and is glad when Owen doesn't kill her. She may not be his Gwen. He may not be her Owen, but it felt good to have him back in her life in some small sense.

She pulls back, not wanting Liz to get the wrong idea about Gwen. Gwen loves someone, two in fact, but neither of them are Owen. "Good. You both look cute together," she said with a wink to the two of them. Her eyes widen and she looks back and forth between Owen and Liz. "Tosh is here too?!" She hadn't seen Tosh yet. It was like Christmas to Gwen. The gang was all here now. At least to her.

[identity profile] open-flame.livejournal.com 2011-04-09 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
"No," Liz bounds up the stairs and retrieves Ianto's poor shoe before Owen's unruly bulldog can make a snack of it. "Owen. Toys. Treats. Stop letting him eat shoes." With that she wings the shoe down by Owen. "If your dog eats my boots you are sleeping on the couch, not him."

She watches them, curious. There's more to those two then just paling around, but Liz is not going to push. If she did then Owen might start asking questions about her friendship with Red. Although Liz didn't reciprocate those feelings of love to the Big Guy, the fact a big red demon was pining over the mother of his unborn child might not exactly please Owen. Who knows...?

Liz makes her way back down the stairs and sits at the bottom. "Never hung out with Tosh. She seems...quiet." Liz is not exactly the get out and make friends type. Hell it took her nearly a year to work up the guts to admit she wanted to even kiss Owen and now....well, they're making up for dicking around for a year, that's for sure.

"We should do a girls...thing. Girl crap." She remembers trying to do the Spa thing with Alisa and how fucked up that was. "Second go will work better than the first.

[identity profile] redtrainers.livejournal.com 2011-04-09 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
"Owen has a dog?" She pulls away from him and looks up at the bulldog. "He's so cute!" She comes over to stand by Liz, smiling at the furry creature. "Aw, he's adorable. What's his name? You eating shoes, little one?"

She looks down at Liz and gives her a look. Yes, her and Owen might have past, but it's a dead past. No pun intended. Her heart always belonged to Rhys and Jack. Owen was just a dalliance. She doesn't regret it. Far from it, she just knows they could never be anything more than what they were. Liz is a good fit for him and she hopes Liz knows that.

"Tosh is Tosh. She was very quiet, but good to have around. I miss her." She sits down beside Liz on the steps. "I like the idea of a girls night." She gazes up at Owen. "Yeah? Thank god or some higher power. I don't need that type of crazy. Any Captain Hart floating around?"

[identity profile] open-flame.livejournal.com 2011-04-09 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
"His name's Patch...and he's..." Liz rips the shoe from the dog's mouth again and sighs when she finds it's a lost cause attempting to save Ianto's footwear. "You want him?" Liz looks at Gwen, dead serious. Yes, she is just that frustrated with Owen's dog.

Liz look at Owen with almost as much seriousness as he has then. "Do not tempt me, Owen." Liz wouldn't hesitate to beat and/or burn the everliving hell out of a Time Lord if they tried to do what they did before to the people she cares about. "Actually, there'd be nothing left of a Time Lord, either, so..." We're just going to blame that murderous rage on the hormones...yup.

"We should...if someone will let me out without supervision" Now it's Liz's turn to stick her tongue out at Owen. "Want me to wear a tracking beacon like the Bureau used to make me?" Liz ponders that name and shakes her head. "Didn't a John Hart knock up that mopey Jack?"

[identity profile] redtrainers.livejournal.com 2011-04-09 11:42 am (UTC)(link)
Gwen giggled and leaned down, so that she could be eye level with the dog. Reaching out, she extended her arm to the little guy so that he could sniff her. She didn't move until he came forward, not wanting to startle him. "At least he's interested in Ianto's feet and not something else?" She winked at Liz and stifled a giggle.

She had her own thoughts about the Time Lords, but she didn't dare say it out loud. "Next time we'll give you a Time Lord," she growled a little. Inching closer to Liz, she gave the girl a brief, quick hug. They both knew how terrible the Time Lords were. They really didn't want to mess with the Torchwood women.

Gwen rolled her eyes and groaned. So John Hart was here. "Hell," she muttered, looking up at Owen. That was the last thing she needed. If she saw him, she might have to punch him after the shit that he pulled. "John tried to knock up and kill Jack. He's not my favorite person, that's for sure." She winked at Owen. "Nobody is taking Jack from us. Not ever."

[identity profile] open-flame.livejournal.com 2011-04-09 01:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"See, you don't know what you've got 'till it's gone." Liz rolls her eyes at Owen. "If Patch is well behaved, then I really am a Princess."

The hug is well, shocking. Liz is used to random hugs from Jack and even a few others but, "We survived...all that matters." She gingerly hugs back and sighs. "I don't know who that is really."

Liz has of course heard of John Hart but the pleasure, or would that be displeasure, of meeting him has yet to happen. "Yeah...I heard he's not exactly winning any man of the awards."

She looks over at Owen and smirks teasingly. "You're giving me shit about a bite on the arm, which is not that much worse than the first one you patched up for me, and now you're sending me after Time Lords. Make up your mind."

[identity profile] redtrainers.livejournal.com 2011-04-10 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Gwen quickly reaches down and grabs the shoe, passing it off to Lyssa. As Patch gets closer, she pets him and gently brushes her fingers against his ear. "Hello," she murmured and leaned down to kiss his nose. "Aren't you a pretty one. Hi cutie."

Her gaze shifts, looking back and forth between Owen and Liz. "Now now, be nice. I'm sure Jack doesn't have any bastard kids." To be honest, he just might, but she would still stand up for him. At least to Owen. "You sure that you don't," she teased right back.

"California?" Her eyes widened and she got a huge grin on her face. "California sun. Sand. Beaches. Bikini's. Just like those teen movies in the sixties, I'm sure." She laughed, looking over at Liz. "I would love to go to California."

[identity profile] open-flame.livejournal.com 2011-04-10 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"The hell does he like you so much," Gwen's just got a way with people and Liz, not so much. She does think the dog might be better off with Gwen, but Owen's taking a shine to Patch and Liz would never want to take that from him.

"I donno. Our Boss invented 'Naked Friday'. Seems like the kinda guy who would have...you know." Liz will not call her boss a slut but. "Some people never knew their father....it happens." She finishes softly before leaning over to kiss Owen on the cheek, just because.

Liz smiles and nods. "It was nice. I'm not a huge fan of water but it had it's moments." Liz smiles at Owen, some of her favorite times with him were there. Some of the scariest too but it was still wonderful. "There's some weird crap out there, too. Maybe we can check it out soon."
